It's an interesting idea. Since the contents of basements can't be seen until the player enters the house, I could get away with generating unique plants for each basement. What would I call that room type?

That's true, there's no reason I can't extend basements down with more stairs. I don't think there's a limit other than the 255 floor max I can fit in the 8-bit numbers I'm using. That reminds me of the EE building at Carnegie Mellon university where I did my undergrad. It had sub-basements down to E-level with mazes of hallways and steam tunnels. I haven't done office basements in 3DWorld yet.Frank Gennarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02815853731800103017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1791631495483462759.post-18282512203441335782021-09-05T18:17:50.751-07:002021-09-05T18:17:50.751-07:00What? No grow-ops with rows of potted plants and grow lamps in basements?

Seems like, now that you have basements, there's nothing stopping you from making multi-layer "skyscraper" basements! Maybe tunnel systems too?Paul Spoonerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17640871289041630907noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1791631495483462759.post-50937184100135933542021-02-15T13:51:05.991-08:002021-02-15T13:51:05.991-08:00I haven't added ladders or circular staircases...I haven't added ladders or circular staircases yet. Maybe I can use something like that with a basement when it's added. I don't have any outside basement stairs. Right now the terrain is flattened around each building to produce a level plot because that makes things easier to work with. If I allow sloped plots in the future, I'll have to add stairs to some exterior doors.Frank Gennarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02815853731800103017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1791631495483462759.post-8087834350984801532021-02-15T13:47:27.289-08:002021-02-15T13:47:27.289-08:00Very fun update. With regards to the broken stairs, I would probably have just made a ladder or a circular staircase :-) Are you going to have some basements with outside stairs?

I like the lighting change, it's very atmospheric and your idea to gradually shift from one to the other is very clever. I'm really starting to look forward to how this will work out as a game!Scott Turnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03393071448515738228noreply@blogger.com
